Charles "Buddy" Gray graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1968.

He was selected first team All-Ohio middle guard in 1967. He was named to the first team All-Central Ohio League squad in both his junior and senior seasons. He won the 1967 MVP Award for the Cavaliers. As a 5'7", 165 pound middle guard, Gray was noted for his tenacious play. He played four years of football at Findlay College.
