Wayne Stevens graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1954. Wayne was an outstanding basketball player and track athlete who played basketball with Oscar Robertson at the University of Cincinnati and was drafted by the NBA's Cincinnati Royals in 1958.

As a sophomore hoopster, he was First Team All-Conference in the Central Ohio League. As a junior, he was the leading scorer in the COL with a 20 ppg average, garnering 1st Team All-Conference and 2nd Team All-State honors.

As a senior, he averaged 20 ppg and became the first CHS basketball player to score over 1,000 points in his career. He was 1st Team All-Conference in the COL and 2nd Team All-State.

In track, he broke the COL high jump record. At the COL Divisional Meet, he was named the Outstanding Athlete and declared the Medalist for this event. At the District Meet at Ohio University-Athens, Wayne won the 100 yard dash, 200 yard dash, the broad jump and high jump. Wayne was named the Outstanding Athlete and Medalist for this event.

At the time of induction, Wayne was one of the top-10 all-time scorers at CHS in basketball. His 19.8 ppg average in the 1953-54 season was the 9th highest points per game average for a single season. He was the second highest all-time career scorer in CHS history with 1,198 points for a 20 ppg career average. He holds the leading field goal percentage for one season at 66.9%, and the second all-time career field goal percentage at 55%. In track, he set the high jump record with a leap of 6' 2 1/2".

After graduating from CHS, Wayne received a full scholarship to the University of Cincinnati where he lettered in basketball his sophomore, junior and senior years on some of the greatest basketball teams in UC history. He was teammates with NBA Hall of Famer Oscar "the Big O" Robertson and the great Connie Dierking who was the fifth overall pick in the NBA draft. Wayne was a Co-Captain of the 1957-58 team and was selected All-Missouri Valley Conference. He finished his UC career with 858 points.
