William "Bill" Gunlock

William "Bill" Gunlock is a 1947 graduate of Chillicothe High School.

He lettered 3 years in football and in his final year was named to the All-Ohio team as an offensive lineman.

Bill attended Miami (OH) University on a full athletic scholarship and won 3 varsity letters in football as an offensive lineman. His Miami teams won 2 Mid-American Conference Championships, and his 1950 team defeated Arizona State University in the predecessor to the Fiesta Bowl. He was coached at Miami by football legend Woody Hayes, and was a teammate and life-long friend of Bo Schembechler.

Following two years of military service, Bill began his coaching career as an assistant football coach at Heidelberg College. He then coached the offensive line at Bowling Green State University before coaching at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY under famous coach Earl "Red" Blaik. Bill was instrumental in developing Army's "Lonesome End" offense and helped lead Army to an undefeated season and Pete Dawkins to the 1958 Heisman Trophy. Bill then became the defensive coordinator at The Ohio State University under Woody Hayes together with Bo Schembechler. Bill played a pivotal role in the Buckeyes' 1961 national championship team, and then retired from coaching after the 1962 season. Bill was particularly proud of coaching three undefeated teams and under 4 coaches who were ultimately inducted into the National College Football Hall of Fame.
