Don Barnes graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1931.

Don holds a CHS track record that may never be broken. On May 24, 1931, at the State track meet, Don threw the javelin 172' 3" for a first place finish. His throw would allegedly have been good enough for 4th place in the Big Ten Championship track meet that year. The longest Ohio collegiate effort that year was 171'. He also had 1st place finishes in the SCOL and District meets. Injuries may have prevented him from competing in his senior year. For safety reasons, most states, including Ohio, have banned the javelin throw. A very small group of CHS athletes have won first place at the State Track Meet.
